The global PV market has encountered a freeze in demand as it enters the third quarter, and declining orders led to rising inventories for wafers, cells and modules. “Prices in different sectors of the supply chain have kept falling through July due to the lack of demand,” said Corrine Lin, assistant research manager of EnergyTrend, a division of TrendForce. “The cell prices in particular have reached their historical lows during this off season.” EnergyTrend expects the situation in the August market to turn for the worst, and demand will probably not pick up even by the end of the third quarter. The value of the global LED market has been growing at a crawling pace as demand for backlight LEDs contracts. Automotive LEDs, however, are one of the few sizable application markets that are developing rapidly along with other smaller markets for niche industrial LED products. The latest analysis by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds the replacement of traditional light bulbs with LED light sources continues steadily in the automotive lighting market despite the slowing growth in the regional automobile markets worldwide during the second quarter. TrendForce Reports DRAM Contract Prices Stabilized in June and Are Expected to Rise in Third Quarter 07-05-2016 Avril Wu
DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, reports DRAM prices were on a decline from October 2014 to June 2016, with the average contract price of DDR3 4GB plunging 62% from U$32.75 to US$12.5. “After being on a downtrend for almost two years, DRAM contract prices stabilized in June as most negotiations settled at US$12.5,” said Avril Wu, DRAMeXchange research director. Due to the tightening of supply, first-tier PC OEMs also started their third-quarter contract negotiations earlier in June. DRAMeXchange expects DRAM contract prices to go up in the third quarter, and the increases will range from about 4% to 8%. [ more ]
