  • TrendForce Forecasts More Than 30% of Smartphones Shipped Worldwide in 2018 Will Carry OLED Panel as iPhone X Encourages Its Adoption
    09-20-2017 / TrendForce
Trends in the display industry are heavily influenced by the developments in the consumer electronics markets, and this is seen in the rapid growth of the OLED panel market due to the rising demand from smartphone and TV brands. In its recent analyses of the panel market by technology, WitsView, a division of TrendForce, finds that the market share of OLED in the small size bracket continues to grow at the expense of LCD’s market share. Furthermore, WitsView anticipates OLED’s representation in the smartphone market will increase substantially following the release of iPhone X. With Apple expected to support this display technology in the future, the percentage of OLED models in the total annual smartphone shipments worldwide is projected to climb from 28% this year to 33% in 2018. 10-17-2016 / Jason Tsai
Sony’s PlayStation VR (PS VR) immediately achieved sold-out status following its release on October 13. The event signaled the start of a new round of competition in the global VR device market in the fourth quarter of 2016. “Demand for VR devices will remain quite strong in the next two years,” said Jason Tsai, wearable device analyst for TrendForce. “Conversely, product shipments will not keep pace with the demand. Shortages of key components, particularly OLED panels, will prevent device makers from putting more products on the shelves.” [ more ]
