  • Global Mobile Payment Market Forecast to Reach US$780 Billion in 2017 as Opportunities Arise, Says TrendForce
    12-27-2016 / Kelly Hsieh
Mobile payment services have expanded significantly during 2016 as smartphone makers intensify their efforts to build their own payment ecosystems. At the same time, innovations and diversification in mobile payment methods have generated new demand and opportunities worldwide. According to market research firm TrendForce, the scale of the global mobile payment market will reach US$780 billion by the end of 2017, amounting to an annual increase of 25.8%. [ more ]
  • Prices in DRAM Market Will Keep Rising Through 2017 as Annual Bit Supply Is Projected to Expand by Less Than 20%, Says TrendForce
    12-14-2016 / Avril Wu
The global DRAM market has been on a roller coaster ride during 2016. Prices were on a steep slide in the year’s first half due to weak demand. However, the pickup in notebook shipments and the strong sales of Chinese branded smartphones since the start of the third quarter have not only reversed the price downtrend but also caused average selling prices of DRAM to make big jumps. Looking ahead to 2017, DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, forecasts that DRAM bit supply will expand by less than 20% annually. This growth rate will also be a new historical low for the industry. Assuming that there will be no significant weakening of demand, DRAM supply will generally remain tight next year. Thus, suppliers should continue to reap profits during the entire 2017 on account of rising prices. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Forecasts LCD TV Shipments for 2017 to Expand by 2.5% Annually
    12-06-2016 / Ricky Lin
Shipments of LCD TV sets worldwide for 2016 are estimated to grow by 1.9% annually to around 220 million units, according to the latest analysis by WitsView, a division of TrendForce. At the start of 2017, the U.S. consumer market will be bumpy in the short term due to the results of the country’s presidential election. If the U.S. Federal Reserve decides to raise the key interest rates next year, domestic consumer spending will recover and the country will again play a major role in sustaining global TV sales. WitsView forecasts that global TV shipments for 2017 will reach 225 million units, up 2.5% compared with the prior year. [ more ]
  • Global NAND Flash Revenue Rose 19.6% Sequentially in Third Quarter as Demand Outpaced Supply, According to TrendForce
    12-01-2016 / Sean Yang
Prices of NAND Flash rose in the third quarter as smartphone makers continued to generate robust demand for related products and the technological transition from 2D-NAND to 3-NAND manufacturing reduced the industry’s overall output. The latest report from DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, finds that the revenue of the global NAND Flash industry grew 19.6% sequentially in the third quarter. At the same time, NAND Flash suppliers made larger gains in respective their operating margins compared with the prior quarter. [ more ]
  • Global Mobile DRAM Revenue Rose 16.8% Sequentially in Third Quarter, Says TrendForce
    11-24-2016 / Avril Wu
DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, reports that sales of mobile DRAM surged in the third quarter as the smartphone industry was in its traditional inventory buildup season and the global DRAM market enjoyed an across-the-broad price increase. Consequently, the mobile DRAM revenue for the quarter rose by about 16.8% sequentially to around US$4.59 billion. [ more ]
  • Global DRAM Revenue Rose 15.8% Sequentially in Third Quarter on Back of Rising Prices, TrendForce Reports
    11-17-2016 / Avril Wu
In response to the rise in worldwide shipments and memory content per box for smartphones, DRAM suppliers since the second quarter have gradually reduce their output of PC DRAM while increasing their server and mobile DRAM production. Consequently, prices of PC DRAM started to rise in the third quarter as supply tightened. The price hike for PC DRAM also pushed up prices for DRAM in other applications at the same time. According to DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, global DRAM revenue for the third quarter rose about 15.8% sequentially on account of this recent price uptrend. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Forecasts Global Smartphone Production Volume to Grow Just 4.5% Annually in 2017
    11-17-2016 / Avril Wu
Global market research firm TrendForce has lowered the projected annual growth rate of smartphone production worldwide for 2016 to 2.5%. Though shipments from Chinese smartphone brands have been fairly strong, other international brands have suffered significant shipment declines, thus constraining the growth in the overall production. • Global Tablet Shipments to Post Moderate Annual Decline of 5.3% in 2017, Says TrendForce
    11-16-2016 / Anita Wang
The downward slide in tablet shipments has moderated during 2016 because Amazon’s and Huawei’s tablets have propped up the overall product sales despite the market headwinds. Global market research firm TrendForce estimates that global tablet shipments for 2016 will total around 154.5 million units, translating to an annual decline of 8.3%. Looking ahead to 2017, branded tablet vendors will adjust their product strategies and generate demand by releasing low-price devices. Hence, global shipments for 2017 are forecast to fall by just 5.3% annually to about 146.4 million units. [ more ]
