The markets for key components used in smartphones have experienced rising prices since the second half of 2016 because of tightening supply. TrendForce’s latest analyses indicate that prices of mobile DRAM, mobile NAND Flash products and AMOLED panels will continue to climb through 2017. As smartphone brands will be raising hardware specifications of their products, they are also revealing their intentions to build up their inventories in advance. High prices of AMOLED panels and memory components during this entire year will constrain smartphone makers’ ability to attain greater profits.

LTPS Panel Market to Face Oversupply in 2017 When Global Capacity Expands by 31.6% Annually, Says TrendForce 08-30-2016 /
WitsView, a division of TrendForce, anticipates growing oversupply of LTPS LCD panels. Worldwide LTPS panel capacity expansion for this year is slower than initially expected as several new fabs have delayed mass production until after this year’s fourth quarter. However, this delay will also lead to an annual increase of 31.6% for next year’s total LTPS panel capacity. TrendForce Says Next iPhone Features Minor Upgrades and Will Be Critical to Apple’s Turnaround Efforts 06-01-2016 /
Apple enjoyed strong iPhone sales through 2015 as iPhone 6 and 6 Plus filled in the gap for large-screen models in the iPhone series. However, the global smartphone market has reached a high level of saturation, and the sales of the follow-up model, iPhone 6s, have been weak. With replacement demand falling, Apple in the first quarter of this year posted its first quarterly drop in iPhone production volume since this smartphone series was introduced in 2007, totaling at 42 million units.
