  • 1Q17 Global DRAM Revenue Rose by 13.4% From Prior Quarter Due to a 30% Hike in PC DRAM Contract Price, Says TrendForce
    05-18-2017 / Avril Wu
The global DRAM revenue reached a new record high in the first quarter of 2017, reports DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. Taking account of the severe supply shortage towards then end of 2016, most PC-OEMs started to negotiate first-quarter contracts in advance during last December. Their demand for sustained DRAM supply had resulted in an at least 30% increase in the average contract price of PC DRAM modules between the fourth quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017. The effect of the price surge in the PC DRAM market spilled over onto the server and mobile DRAM markets. The prices of mobile DRAM products also grew by nearly 10% on average this first quarter compared with the preceding quarter. [ more ]
  • Qualcomm Leads Global Ranking of Top 10 Fabless IC Design Companies Based on Annual Revenue for 2016, Says TrendForce
    12-05-2016 / TrendForce
Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (abbreviation QCT, here referred to as Qualcomm) tops the projected ranking of the top 10 fabless IC design houses worldwide based on annual revenues for 2016, according to TrendForce’s analysis. Broadcom Limited is expected to be runner-up, while MediaTek will take third place. The ranking positions of these three companies are fairly secure in the short term because collectively they would represent about 65% of the total revenue generated all the design houses that are listed on this year’s top 10 ranking. • Global NAND Flash Revenue Rose 19.6% Sequentially in Third Quarter as Demand Outpaced Supply, According to TrendForce
    12-01-2016 / Sean Yang
Prices of NAND Flash rose in the third quarter as smartphone makers continued to generate robust demand for related products and the technological transition from 2D-NAND to 3-NAND manufacturing reduced the industry’s overall output. The latest report from DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, finds that the revenue of the global NAND Flash industry grew 19.6% sequentially in the third quarter. At the same time, NAND Flash suppliers made larger gains in respective their operating margins compared with the prior quarter. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Estimates Annual Sales Revenue Worldwide from Fabless IC Design to Drop 3.2% in 2016 but Will Grow 3.4% in 2017
    11-29-2016 / TrendForce
The latest estimate from market research firm TrendForce puts sales revenue worldwide from fabless IC design for 2016 at US$77.49 billion, a decline of 3.2% from 2015. However, TrendForce expects strong growth in several application markets in 2017, such as automotive electronics. The global fabless IC design industry’s annual sales revenue will grow again in 2018 by 3.4%, totaling around US$80.59 billion. [ more ]
  • Global Mobile DRAM Revenue Rose 16.8% Sequentially in Third Quarter, Says TrendForce
    11-24-2016 / Avril Wu
DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, reports that sales of mobile DRAM surged in the third quarter as the smartphone industry was in its traditional inventory buildup season and the global DRAM market enjoyed an across-the-broad price increase. Consequently, the mobile DRAM revenue for the quarter rose by about 16.8% sequentially to around US$4.59 billion. [ more ]
  • Global DRAM Revenue Rose 15.8% Sequentially in Third Quarter on Back of Rising Prices, TrendForce Reports
    11-17-2016 / Avril Wu
In response to the rise in worldwide shipments and memory content per box for smartphones, DRAM suppliers since the second quarter have gradually reduce their output of PC DRAM while increasing their server and mobile DRAM production. Consequently, prices of PC DRAM started to rise in the third quarter as supply tightened. The price hike for PC DRAM also pushed up prices for DRAM in other applications at the same time. According to DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, global DRAM revenue for the third quarter rose about 15.8% sequentially on account of this recent price uptrend. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Reports Gradual Stabilization of NAND Flash Market With Global Revenue Rising 3.4% Sequentially in Second Quarter
    09-13-2016 / Sean Yang
In the second quarter of 2016, demand for high-capacity eMMC/eMCP from Chinese smartphone brands and the stock-up activities ahead of the iPhone 7 release caused a gradual tightening of NAND Flash supply. The decline in contract prices for eMMC and SSDs of both client and enterprise grade also started to ease during the same period, according to the latest report from DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. Channel prices of NAND Flash wafers have even begun to rise on a monthly basis since April. Consequently, the combined global revenue of branded NAND Flash suppliers increased 3.4% sequentially in the second quarter. This result signaled the end of revenue decline that persisted in the past two consecutive quarters. [ more ]
  • Total Capital Expenditure of Top Three Semiconductor Manufacturers to Increase 5.4% YoY for 2016, Says TrendForce
    02-03-2016 / TrendForce
The revenue of the global semiconductor foundry industry is projected to grow by just 2.1% year on year for 2016 on account of slowing end market demand and expanding supply, according to the global market research firm TrendForce. The competition among major semiconductor manufacturers is therefore going to intensify as well. [ more ]
