  • TrendForce Estimates Global Branded TV Shipments to Drop by 4.2% Annually for 2017; Strong Results in Second Half Are Unlikely to Offset Declines in First Half

    WitsView, a division of TrendForce, reports that the global shipments of branded TV sets for the third quarter of 2017 totaled 54.99 million units, showing an increase of 16% from the second quarter and a year-on-year decline of 4.0%. The third quarter is traditionally a busy period for TV shipments. Furthermore, the recent drop in panel prices is gradually taking away the cost pressure on TV brands, bolstering their confidence in expanding their shipments. WitsView expects the TV market to remain positive through the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, the strong results in the second half of this year are unlikely going to offset three consecutive quarters of year-on-year declines. WitsView therefore has lowered its estimate of this year’s annual global shipments to 210 million units, down 4.2% from the previous year. [ more ]

While this shipment figure represents an increase of 7.6% from the prior quarter, it also amounts to a year-on-year decrease of 5.2%.     Global shipments of LCD TV sets for 2016 increased 1.6% annually to reach 219.2 million units, according to WitsView, a division of TrendForce. Shipment growth was attributed to the strong sales in North America’s distribution channels during the busy season, the increasing affordability of large-size TVs and the robust housing market in China. The top five TV brands by shipments in order are Samsung, LG Electronics (LGE), Hisense, TCL and Sony. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Forecasts LCD TV Shipments for 2017 to Expand by 2.5% Annually

    Shipments of LCD TV sets worldwide for 2016 are estimated to grow by 1.9% annually to around 220 million units, according to the latest analysis by WitsView, a division of TrendForce. At the start of 2017, the U.S. consumer market will be bumpy in the short term due to the results of the country’s presidential election. If the U.S. Federal Reserve decides to raise the key interest rates next year, domestic consumer spending will recover and the country will again play a major role in sustaining global TV sales. WitsView forecasts that global TV shipments for 2017 will reach 225 million units, up 2.5% compared with the prior year. [ more ]

    WitsView, a division of TrendForce, reports global shipments of LCD TV sets in the third quarter of 2016 totaled around 57.15 million units, representing a sequential quarterly increase of 14.4% and a year-on-year increase of 5.8%. TV set shipments benefitted from peak season demand in the U.S. and Europe as well as festivities in China (i.e. the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day holidays).     WitsView, a division of TrendForce, reports that the global shipments of LCD TV sets in the second quarter of 2016 totaled around 48.68 million units, up 1.2% over the prior quarter. Demand generated from sporting events (e.g. the UEFA Championship and the upcoming Olympic Games) was not effective in boosting shipments as expected earlier. At the same time, traditional or established domestic TV brands in China saw a general slide in their shipments. Hence, the global shipment result showed only a very marginal quarterly growth.   • TrendForce Reports Smartphone Component Suppliers Have Stepped Up Their Production since February Due to Strong Demand from Chinese Brands

    The global smartphone demand has been stagnant since the fourth quarter of 2015. All branded vendors therefore have lowered their shipment targets, and the entire market spent about three months on channel inventory digest. Avril Wu, smartphone analyst for the global market research firm TrendForce, said the stock up of Chinese branded smartphones started to pick up in the middle of February, as the inventory adjustment period came to an end.
