  • TrendForce Reports 4.6% Sequential Monthly Gain for Average Contract Price of PC DRAM Modules This July and Expects It to Keep Rising This Third Quarter
    08-07-2017 / Avril Wu
DRAM prices began to rise in the second half of 2016 and have maintained a strong upward momentum through the first half of 2017, according to data from DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. The average contract price of PC DRAM modules rose by nearly 40% sequentially in the first quarter to US$24 and then by more than 10% sequentially in the second quarter to US$27. Furthermore, the average contract price of PC DRAM modules increased by about 4.6% between this June and July. DRAMeXchange’s price forecast for this year’s second half indicates and steady and incremental gains as the general trend in the DRAM market. [ more ]
  • 1Q17 Global DRAM Revenue Rose by 13.4% From Prior Quarter Due to a 30% Hike in PC DRAM Contract Price, Says TrendForce
    05-18-2017 / Avril Wu
The global DRAM revenue reached a new record high in the first quarter of 2017, reports DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. Taking account of the severe supply shortage towards then end of 2016, most PC-OEMs started to negotiate first-quarter contracts in advance during last December. Their demand for sustained DRAM supply had resulted in an at least 30% increase in the average contract price of PC DRAM modules between the fourth quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017. The effect of the price surge in the PC DRAM market spilled over onto the server and mobile DRAM markets. The prices of mobile DRAM products also grew by nearly 10% on average this first quarter compared with the preceding quarter. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Says Overall DRAM Market to See Upward Price Trajectory Through 2017 Despite Recent Dip in Spot Price of DDR4 Chips
    04-26-2017 / Avril Wu
DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, reports that the average spot price of PC DRAM DDR4 chips has fallen by about 1.92% since April 20. Latest analysis indicates that PC DRAM's chip prices generally have been higher in the spot market than in the contract market.. The recent drop in the average spot price of PC DRAM DDR4 chips is thus a correction to limit the price gap between the two markets. Nonetheless, DRAMeXchange maintains the view that DRAM prices will generally stay on an uptrend during the entire 2017. This is mainly attributed to tight supply resulting from the lack of major fab expansion plans and yield issues with leading-edge processes. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Estimates Average Contract Price of 4GB DDR4 DRAM Modules to Climb 12.5% Entering 2Q17 as Difficulties Mount for Under 20nm Production
    04-13-2017 / Avril Wu
DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, reports the general price increase in the PC DRAM market is growing larger than anticipated as the already tight supply situation is compounded by quality problems with products made on the leading-edge processes. Based on a preliminary survey of completed contracts for the second quarter, DRAMeXchange estimates that the average contract price of 4GB DDR4 modules will go up by about 12.5% compared with the first quarter, from US$24 to around US$27. • TrendForce Reports Global DRAM Revenue Jumped 18.2% Sequentially in Fourth Quarter of 2016 Owing to Soaring Contract Prices for PC DRAM
    02-14-2017 / Avril Wu
Peak season demand and surging prices for DRAM products across different applications resulted in an 18.2% sequential growth in the global DRAM revenue for the final quarter of 2016, reports DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Reports Contract Price of DDR3 4GB Modules Reaches Above US$25 and DRAM Price Will Achieve Record Increase for Off-Peak Season in First Quarter of 2017
    01-04-2017 / Avril Wu
The latest analysis by DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, finds that average selling prices of various categories of DRAM products will increase significantly in the first quarter of 2017 as they continue to experience tight supply. The general price upswing that began in the second half of 2016 therefore will persist into the first quarter of this year despite the period being the traditional off-peak season. The contract prices of DDR3 4GB PC DRAM modules have reached a high of above US$25, and prices of DRAM products will see an estimated sequential quarterly increase of more than 30% on average, which would be a new record for the off-peak season. • Prices in DRAM Market Will Keep Rising Through 2017 as Annual Bit Supply Is Projected to Expand by Less Than 20%, Says TrendForce
    12-14-2016 / Avril Wu
The global DRAM market has been on a roller coaster ride during 2016. Prices were on a steep slide in the year’s first half due to weak demand. However, the pickup in notebook shipments and the strong sales of Chinese branded smartphones since the start of the third quarter have not only reversed the price downtrend but also caused average selling prices of DRAM to make big jumps. Looking ahead to 2017, DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, forecasts that DRAM bit supply will expand by less than 20% annually. This growth rate will also be a new historical low for the industry. Assuming that there will be no significant weakening of demand, DRAM supply will generally remain tight next year. Thus, suppliers should continue to reap profits during the entire 2017 on account of rising prices. [ more ]
  • Average Contract Price of PC DRAM 4GB Modules Rose to US$18 in November, Says TrendForce
    12-07-2016 / Avril Wu
Prices in the contract and spot markets for PC DRAM kept climbing between October and November, according to DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. The average contract price of PC DRAM 4GB modules increased by 2.86% monthly to arrive at US$18 in November, while the average spot prices of DDR3 and DDR4 4Gb chips respectively rose 6% and 2% monthly to reach US$2.6 and US$2.53. The general state of the PC DRAM market in November suggests that the upward price trend will continue in the future. [ more ]
