  • Tightening Supply and Demand from AMOLED and TDDI Markets to Push Up NOR Flash Prices Through 2017, Says TrendForce
    04-05-2017 / TrendForce
The prices of NOR Flash will go up sequentially by at least 5% on average for every quarter in 2017 as its market benefits from the abundant releases of smartphones featuring AMOLED display during the year, TrendForce reports. Besides the general adoption of AMOLED in the smartphone market, the expansion in the production of ICs for Touch with Display Driver Integration (TDDI) is driving the need for NOR Flash as well. From the supply side, major manufacturers such as Micron and GigaDevice have reduced their NOR Flash production. Tight supply and rising demand therefore will keep prices of NOR Flash on an uptrend to the end of this year. [ more ]
  • Soaring Prices of Key Components Are Starting to Squeeze the Margins of Smartphone Makers, According to TrendForce
    03-01-2017 / TrendForce
The markets for key components used in smartphones have experienced rising prices since the second half of 2016 because of tightening supply. TrendForce’s latest analyses indicate that prices of mobile DRAM, mobile NAND Flash products and AMOLED panels will continue to climb through 2017. As smartphone brands will be raising hardware specifications of their products, they are also revealing their intentions to build up their inventories in advance. High prices of AMOLED panels and memory components during this entire year will constrain smartphone makers’ ability to attain greater profits. [ more ]
  • Share of In-Cell Solutions in Smartphone Display Market to Reach 29.6% in 2017 as TDDI Chips Becomes Increasingly Available, Says TrendForce
    12-29-2016 / Boyce Fan

  • TrendForce Forecasts LCD TV Shipments for 2017 to Expand by 2.5% Annually
    12-06-2016 / Ricky Lin
Shipments of LCD TV sets worldwide for 2016 are estimated to grow by 1.9% annually to around 220 million units, according to the latest analysis by WitsView, a division of TrendForce. At the start of 2017, the U.S. consumer market will be bumpy in the short term due to the results of the country’s presidential election. If the U.S. Federal Reserve decides to raise the key interest rates next year, domestic consumer spending will recover and the country will again play a major role in sustaining global TV sales. WitsView forecasts that global TV shipments for 2017 will reach 225 million units, up 2.5% compared with the prior year. [ more ]
  • Tight Supply of Upstream Components Results in Limited Reductions in Production Costs for LCD Panels During Fourth Quarter, Says TrendForce
    11-28-2016 / TrendForce
WitsView, a division of TrendForce, reports that the LCD panel market during this fourth quarter has witnessed strong demand as consumer electronics brands stock up for their holiday promotions. At the same time, panel makers are facing tighter supply for some upstream components. As upstream suppliers are less willing to make further price concessions, panel makers are constrained in their cost-cutting efforts. In general, the cash costs of LCD panels in the fourth quarter of 2016 have fallen by just 1~2% compared with the prior quarter. [ more ]

  • TrendForce Says OLED Panel Supply Crucial to VR Device Makers as They Struggle to Make Shipments in Peak Season
    10-17-2016 / Jason Tsai
Sony’s PlayStation VR (PS VR) immediately achieved sold-out status following its release on October 13. The event signaled the start of a new round of competition in the global VR device market in the fourth quarter of 2016. “Demand for VR devices will remain quite strong in the next two years,” said Jason Tsai, wearable device analyst for TrendForce. “Conversely, product shipments will not keep pace with the demand. Shortages of key components, particularly OLED panels, will prevent device makers from putting more products on the shelves.” [ more ]
