  • TrendForce Expects NAND Flash Prices to Keep Rising During 2017 as Industry’s Wafer Capacity Will Expand by Just 6% Annually
    12-21-2016 / Sean Yang
The global NAND Flash industry will see an annual increase of just 6% in its total wafer capacity in 2017, according to analysis by DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. As the pace of the industry-wide transition to 3D-NAND architecture accelerates, supply of 2D-NAND memory will drop sharply, leading to shortages next year. Furthermore, many suppliers are still working on the mass production of 3D-NAND memory. Until the industry in general is able to apply 64-layer 3D-NAND solutions to OEM storage products, the market supply for 3D-NAND memory will remain tight. In the meantime, NAND Flash prices will continue to go up and boost suppliers’ revenues. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Reports Gradual Stabilization of NAND Flash Market With Global Revenue Rising 3.4% Sequentially in Second Quarter
    09-13-2016 / Sean Yang
In the second quarter of 2016, demand for high-capacity eMMC/eMCP from Chinese smartphone brands and the stock-up activities ahead of the iPhone 7 release caused a gradual tightening of NAND Flash supply. The decline in contract prices for eMMC and SSDs of both client and enterprise grade also started to ease during the same period, according to the latest report from DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. Channel prices of NAND Flash wafers have even begun to rise on a monthly basis since April. Consequently, the combined global revenue of branded NAND Flash suppliers increased 3.4% sequentially in the second quarter. This result signaled the end of revenue decline that persisted in the past two consecutive quarters. [ more ]
  • Strong Smartphone Demand and Power Outage at Samsung’s Xian Fab to Add Fuel to NAND Flash Market in Third Quarter, Says TrendForce
    06-20-2016 / Sean Yang
The latest NAND Flash price report from DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, finds prices of TLC wafers and spot prices of mainstream memory cards have been on a steady rise for three consecutive months since this April. The uptrend will continue as the possibility of the market encountering tight supply in the third quarter becomes more apparent. The margin of price increase has also been getting larger over the past month. [ more ]
  • TrendForce: The Closing of Micron-Merging-Inotera Deal Has Delay; Further Update Will Report in Later 2016
    06-13-2016 / TrendForce
Inotera held a brief press conference today, stating that Micron has decided to delay the schedule of merging Inotera, and the future update will be announced in later part of this year. Other than the NT$80B syndicated loan is still processing, current technical support between MMT (Micron Memory Taiwan) and Inotera has been put on hold. However, both Micron and Formosa group both stated that it is only the delay of schedule, not the end of discussion. Both parties will continuously seek for the possible solution in order to complete the transaction. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Says Next iPhone Features Minor Upgrades and Will Be Critical to Apple’s Turnaround Efforts
    06-01-2016 / TrendForce
Apple enjoyed strong iPhone sales through 2015 as iPhone 6 and 6 Plus filled in the gap for large-screen models in the iPhone series. However, the global smartphone market has reached a high level of saturation, and the sales of the follow-up model, iPhone 6s, have been weak. With replacement demand falling, Apple in the first quarter of this year posted its first quarterly drop in iPhone production volume since this smartphone series was introduced in 2007, totaling at 42 million units.
