  • TrendForce Says Production Capacity for Large-Size LCD Panels Continues to Expand in Second Half of 2017; Supply to Become Important Factor in Fourth Quarter
    07-13-2017 / Kou-Han Tseng
The overall production capacity for large-size LCD panels rose above the expected level in the first half of 2017 despite seasonal headwinds, according to research by WitsView, a division of TrendForce. Panel suppliers actually found their processing lines fully loaded and were compelled to make some of their newly added production capacity available ahead of schedule. WitsView estimates that the global production capacity for large-size LCD panels in terms of total glass input area will increase by 5.8% annually in 2017 to reach 218.3 million square meters. This figure is 0.3 percentage point above an earlier estimate. Supply will become an important factor in determining the course of the panel market during second half of 2017, especially in the fourth quarter. [ more ]
  • TrendForce Anticipates Demand for Large-Size LCD Panels Will Be Above Seasonal Norm in First Half of 2017; Market in Second Half Will Be Affected by Variables
    01-03-2017 / TrendForce
Demand for large-size LCD panels during the first half of 2017 will be above the level expected for the usual off season, according to WitsView, a division of TrendForce. This latest forecast is attributed to the closure of Samsung Display’s L7-1 fab and Sharp’s decision to halt supplying TV panels to Samsung Electronics. The market situation will become more uncertain in the second half of 2017 as important variables will influence panel supply and demand. WitsView forecasts that the glut ratio of large-size panel market for 2017 will be 3.2%, which is the almost the same as this year’s estimate of 3.3%. Note that “glut ratio” is a special index used by WitsView to measure market oversupply. [ more ]
  • Tight Supply of Upstream Components Results in Limited Reductions in Production Costs for LCD Panels During Fourth Quarter, Says TrendForce
    11-28-2016 / TrendForce
WitsView, a division of TrendForce, reports that the LCD panel market during this fourth quarter has witnessed strong demand as consumer electronics brands stock up for their holiday promotions. At the same time, panel makers are facing tighter supply for some upstream components. As upstream suppliers are less willing to make further price concessions, panel makers are constrained in their cost-cutting efforts. In general, the cash costs of LCD panels in the fourth quarter of 2016 have fallen by just 1~2% compared with the prior quarter. [ more ]
  • Large-Size LCD Panel Capacity to Grow at Most Conservative Pace in Four Years During 2017, Says TrendForce
    10-12-2016 / TrendForce
The global capacity of large-size LCD panels by area is projected to grow 6.6% annually to reach 208 million square meters in 2016, reports WitsView, a division of TrendForce. The supply of LCD panels this year has been disrupted by the February earthquake in Taiwan and Samsung Display’s problems with transitioning to a new manufacturing process. WitsView further forecasts that the global large-size LCD panel capacity for 2017 is set to grow at the slowest pace since 2014 at an annual rate of just 3.9%, totaling 216 million square meters. • Monthly TV Panel Shipments Saw 5% Monthly Growth in July as Panel Prices and Purchases Rose Ahead of Peak Season, Says TrendForce
    08-18-2016 / Iris Hu
The latest large-size LCD panel shipment report by WitsView, a division of TrendForce, says shipments of LCD TV panels totaled 22.8 million units in July, representing a 5% increase from June and a 2.2% year-on-year increase. As the TV market enters the peak sales season, branded TV vendors are focusing on stocking up for their promotional activities. Rising panel prices are also spurring them to replenish their inventories. Consequently, the surge of demand in the TV panel market has begun earlier than usual. [ more ]
